French
Bonjour et beinvenue au groupe français.
With a growing interest in speaking French amongst our members, we are now offering two French groups – Conversation and Intermediate. Not sure which group is for you? You are welcome to try out either (or both!) groups to see which is the best fit for you.
Nous avons hâte de te rencontrer
Conversation
This new group is for people who enjoy the French language, French culture and generally all things French. Members may have studied French to a certain level in the past, have holidayed frequently in France or perhaps lived or worked in a French speaking country; people who are able to join in conversational French, although who are not necessarily fluent. The idea is that the group is a place to practice our spoken French and learn from each other.
Each of the sessions will be based on a topic from a list compiled in advance by the members. Some people may wish to do a little preparation beforehand but the goal is to have a convivial conversation discussing the subject of the day. It is our group to develop as we wish, and to enjoy the beauty of the French language without feeling pressured.
If you feel the group may be for you please contact the convenor so we can arrange for you to come along and try it.

Intermediate
The French Intermediate group is for members who have some French, maybe from long ago, wanting to improve their skills. Most activities will be at A2 level: you will find some examples here. From January 2026, We will be following French Made Easy Level 2: members will need to purchase their own copies once they join the group.
Our meetings are a mixture of speaking, listening and reading, in a relaxed atmosphere. We do not have a teacher and we would not be suitable for absolute beginners. Learn more about the group from the welcome message below:
