Concert goers
This group, which started in early 2022, visits “classical” concerts at the Bridgewater Hall, Stoller Hall, Royal Northern College of Music and other venues. It is a very sociable group that enjoys listening to live orchestral, choral and operatic music together. We welcome suggestions from members on which concerts to include in the programme (listed below) and the convenor books tickets for the chosen events (with advance payment).
I have so enjoyed attending concerts with this group who are very friendly and good fun. It has been a unique opportunity to widen my exposure to many different styles of music. My personal favourite of the last year has been attending the Bridgewater Hall to listen to a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. This work is based on the Catholic Mass for singers, players and dancers: there were all age groups on the stage with an eclectic mix of music styles. It was commissioned by Jackie Kennedy for the opening of the John F Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington DC in 1971. It was a very moving and emotional performance.
