Handicraft

Convenor: Sylvia Young, 0161 790 9594 –  sylvo49@talktalk.net

Venue and Time/Date: The group will meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month from 10.30-12.30pm at St. Paul’s  Community Centre, Walkden.

Handicrafts covers a wide range of skills including wool craft, needlecraft and paper crafts.

This group is for anybody who has a skill they would like to share or something they would like to learn.  Members can learn from each other, share ideas and become creative in a relaxed, chatty atmosphere.
Sessions include a variety of crafts based on members interests, with a programme and projects decided by the group.

Some sessions are currently just a broad topic with details to be planned. The programme is subject to change. Unless otherwise stated, materials and equipment provided for a small charge.

SALFORD U3A – KNITTING FOR CHARITY

The Handicrafts group have decided to knit for charity and we’re inviting everybody in Salford U3A to join us.

We are knitting premature baby hats and blankets for the neonatal and children’s wards at Royal Bolton Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital (we don’t have these services in Salford anymore). We will link up with ‘Project Linus’ a national charity that distributes quilts, blankets and hats to hospitals and needy children all over the UK.

To help us we would like you to knit baby hats or squares that we will sew together into blankets.

Squares should be knitted in double knitting washable yarn, probably on size 4.00 (8) needles to make a 4” or 6” square.

4” squares in white or pastel colours for baby blankets, 6” squares in brighter colours for blankets for toddlers and older children.

Baby hats should be in baby DK or 4ply washable yarn using your own pattern or the one shown on this link: http://projectlinusuk.org.uk/premature-baby-hats/

If you can’t or don’t want to knit maybe you could help us by donating a ball of wool. A 50gm ball of baby DK will make at least six beanie hats for premature babies.

Your finished work can be donated at the monthly Friday Socials or you can arrange collection by telephoning myself or Judith Gibson (0161 788 9173).

Thank You.
